What are these UF challenges?
How do challenges work and how can I participate?
Can I help promoting the challenges in some way?
What if I have an idea for a future challenge?

You can find all this information and more in the Ultra Fractal challenges FAQ, which is also part of our very first UF challenge, the one for February 2011.
If you already know the rules, then you're good to go - read on for this month's challenge!

Previous editions:

You can find all of the previous challenges in this journal. Please keep in mind that the challenge rules changed after the 26th edition!

Links to ALL UF challenges (updated periodically!)Since the UF challenges are growing in number, instead of linking them all in each new one, I thought I'd make a collection journal for all of them. This will contain all challenges held so far, from the newest (top) to the oldest (bottom), all conveniently thumbed for you! It will also be updated each month so that ALL challenges are reachable from here, even the newer ones. And this journal will of course be linked in every challenge, to keep them all connected :aww:
Here we go!

Now we can go on with the last challenge's results, and then I will introduce this month's challenge to you all.

Here is the March 2015 challenge, and the deviations I've picked as the winners!
(Please note: do not feel offended if your fractals haven't been picked. Winners are chosen basing on their way of representing the challenge theme, and I always try to be as impartial as possible while judging.)

The winner of the Formula challenge is Klytia70 with Golden Wheels:

Golden wheels by Klytia70

Incredibly well done under every single aspect! The golden colours really gleam, and the dark green background is perfect to make them stand out even more. The overall structure is balanced and exquisitely symmetrical, and shows great mastery over the Barnsley structures!

The winner of the Theme challenge is Gerda1946 with Awakening:

A stunning piece in its own right, with a faint, delicate background and a sudden outburst of energy coming straight from the depths of the horizon, like a second sun coming to a glorious dawn. Powerful vision, and excellent rendition to boot! Great job!

The winner of the Other challenge is Olbaid-ST with First Rainbow:

Mandelbrot 119 - First Rainbow - by Olbaid-ST

A truly shocking display of just how much the simple Mandelbrot shape can achieve. This minibrot has such an intricate structure around it, seemingly divided into countless, iridescent 3D scales, all of which give a strong impression of dimensionality to the viewer. One could get lost staring it, for how beautiful it is.

All other entrants deserve a feature just the same, so here they are for you to see!

Challenge #51: April 2015

April's Formula challenge will be the No Traps challenge!
Instead of imposing a formula to use, this challenge focuses on formulas to NOT use, specifically any formula with "Trap" in its name. This also includes variants of Doodads, Thingamajigs, and similar algorithms. You can use Mandelbrot and Julia all you like, of course; the most important thing is exploration. Make something good without the "classic" fractal colouring algorithms!

April's Theme challenge will be the Question Mark challenge!
This month's theme is questions. Whether simple ones (e.g. "What should I make for dinner today?"), or deeper issues concerning individuals ("Who am I?") and/or humanity in its whole... and those are just some of the examples! Your fractals should convey the feeling of asking a question - to yourself, to someone specific, to your watchers, whomever you want. No restrictions otherwise.

April's Style challenge will be the Contrast challenge!
In this challenge, the aim is to create a pleasant-looking fractal with high contrast. This should be preferably done through opposite colour pairs (blue and orange, red and green, or yellow and purple) but can be managed with black and white as well. You are also NOT limited to only using the two opposite colours, though you are advised to, in the spirit of the challenge. Make them sparkle, make them shine!

Remember: to enter each challenge, post your deviation's link and thumb in a comment of this journal, and specify which challenge you are entering the fractal in. ALSO: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LINK THIS NEWS ARTICLE IN THE DEVIATION!

Please spread the word by advertising this news article - we definitely want more participants. The more, the merrier!

This challenge's deadline is April 30th, 2015. Ready, set, GO!!! :eager:
