Fantastic Fractalicious Fractals issue 14The first issue of this year! This time I want to present some of the coolest fractals from 2011, it was really difficult to pick out some faves of the year, you are too good!!! But first, a short resume of last year's happenings.
What happened last year?
Pretty lot! There have been fractal circles with tweaking fractals around, both in the group :#fractalcircles: and ponging parameters in :#aposhack: , Light `SuicideBySafetyPin introduced us for the Inspiration station, the fractal flash mob, a collective feature of different artists. *heavenriver has her UF challenge going on http://heavenriver.deviantart.com/journal/Ultra-Fractal-monthly-Challenges-Redux-Vol-12-277027446 and `f--l--A--r--k has his Apo challenge http://fav.me/d4l1fc6 and it would be great if we could keep up supporting them! FFF series issue 13You wonder what's with the weird title? Yep, I thought I should submit with sta.sh instead of my journal, and of course, it was the famous 30 character limit again. Nevermind, I've heard that it will change soon. I'm back again with the series. And from now on, the series will come out semimonthly instead of each week. It gives me more time to dig up new goodies and collect resources and news. And you'll not be tired of the squirrel and her instant chattering. At least I hope so

Welcome to the group & our first Challenge!A Warm Welcome To #Ultra-Fractal-Redux
It is heart-warming to see so many of you joining this new group, and we have some exciting things planned ahead, so spread the word!
As you will no doubt have seen from our original Home Page information, this group is more than a mere collecting point for UF art. It is also a place for sharing knowledge about the program and how to use it with one another, so that we can all learn and grow together as amazing Ultra Fractal artists! We already have quite a few fractals with parameters added, and our Resources gallery is getting quite a comprehensive collection of tutorials and other things in it. This is a major part of what this group is all about, so please keep them coming!

Below we have the details of our very first challenge, which is two-fold in order to accommodate the skill levels and preferences of the people taking part. At the end of the month once the challenge is over, we would like to invite you to tell us

Summer challenge: ON!Hello everybody!
After a really quick "OMFGIGOTANIDEA!" - "OMGIT'SAWESOME" type of conversation we decided to staaart...

SEASONAL CHALLENGES!
It will work fairly easy: I'll give you guidelines, which you must keep in mind - but remember: these are challenges, you are not limited, you are just given some hints!

You will have 3 categories to enter:

COLOR challenge!
I'll show you a picture, or give you color codes, or describe you a landscape, and you'll have to "reproduce" it in a fractal way - with a visibly similar gradient.

For this, summer season, I'll give it to your imagination!
Imagine a secluded island on the huge ocean, with vibrant wildlife, fresh air, and colorful birds everywhere! I doubt it was hard

Links to ALL UF challenges (updated periodically!)Since the UF challenges are growing in number, instead of linking them all in each new one, I thought I'd make a collection journal for all of them. This will contain all challenges held so far, from the newest (top) to the oldest (bottom), all conveniently thumbed for you! It will also be updated each month so that ALL challenges are reachable from here, even the newer ones. And this journal will of course be linked in every challenge, to keep them all connected

Here is the February 2012 challenge, themed "Happy Birthday to Us", and the deviations I've picked as the winners!
(Please note: do not feel offended if you're not in the top three. Winners are chosen basing on their way of representing the challenge theme, and I always try to be as impartial as possible while judging.)

Regardless of this being the only entry for the month, this fractal deserves praise for its delightful crafting: much attention has been placed on distributing lighting and colour, for an overall effect of softness and warmth. What better way do we have to celebrate the birthday of our fractal challenges, than celebrating the coming of spring itself?

Well, let's hope springcoming brings you other fractalists some inspiration, at least.

Challenge #14: March 2012

March's challenge will be a Style challenge - its title being Black and White!

This month's challenge will focus on creating beautiful, well-structured fractals without any hint of colour. All fractals entering this challenge must be completely grayscale, no exceptions! This will be a chance for every fractalist to focus on exploring fractal shapes and giving proper depth and lighting to the artwork.
The beauty of monochromatic artworks lies in their very simplicity - have a look at these extremely elegant fractals:

Remember: to enter the challenge, post your deviation's link and thumb in a comment of this journal. ALSO: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LINK THIS NEWS ARTICLE IN THE DEVIATION. (Sorry for stating it so strongly, but I've had lots of people saying they'd enter the challenge without even stating it in their deviation comments, so I figured I'd better add this specification somewhere!)
