What are these UF challenges?
How do challenges work and how can I participate?
Can I help promoting the challenges in some way?
What if I have an idea for a future challenge?

You can find all this information and more in the Ultra Fractal challenges FAQ, which is also part of our very first UF challenge, the one for February 2011.
If you already know the rules, then you're good to go - read on for this month's challenge!

Challenge #09 - October 2011 - Theme challenge; title: "Haunted Halloween"
Challenge #10 - November 2011 - Style challenge; title: "Oil on Canvas"

Now we can go on with the last challenge's results, and then I will introduce this month's challenge to you all.

Here is the November challenge, themed "Oil on Canvas", and the deviations I've picked as the winners!
(Please note: do not feel offended if you're not in the top three. Winners are chosen basing on their way of representing the challenge theme, and I always try to be as impartial as possible while judging.)

First place goes to beautifulchaos1 with:

The Sentinel by beautifulchaos1

An extremely evocative and atmospheric artwork, which joins classic canvas elements with dim brownish tones and a dark setting, simulating a lonely building standing on top of a mountain at dusk.

Second place goes to George13 with:

At the End of the Day by George13

This picture showcases a striking yet very appealing contrast, piecing together a pastel sunset and an almost completely black foreground, making up for a great emulation of a panoramic photograph!

Third place goes to BlurWing with:

OilOnBoardIFS by BlurWing

Particularly dramatic and emotional, enticing in its resemblance of a blood stain on canvas. The lovely textures and the wisely chosen cut sum up for a greatly original example of gnarl.

And here are the other entrants for this one challenge!

We're done for November. On to December!

Ultra Fractal monthly challenges Redux

Challenge #11: December 2011

December's challenge will be a Theme) challenge - its title being Holiday Bash!

A very classic December theme - winter break in whatever form it may come for you. Whether be it spending a nice Christmas time with friends and family, waiting for midnight fireworks at New Year's Eve, hoping to get the one gift you've wanted for long as a present, eating lots of sweets and cake or anything else - everything goes for this one challenge as long as it radiates a heartfelt holiday spirit.
This is a lot less specific and fairly easier than many other challenges we've had in the past, so give it your best shot!

Here are a few wintry celebration fractals all over dA:

Christmas by svet-svet Gift Box Marble - Poinsettia by Velvet--Glove Christmas 2011 by 12GO Holiday Greetings by PzzPod My Vintage Christmas by magnusti78 Happy new year by ZlatkoZ winter lights by rce-ordinary Christmas Fractal by LaraBLN

And here are some of the best non-fractal holiday deviations from this site!

Christmas by ironii Merry Christmas by Evil-Uke-Sora christmas ball by yyelsel Christmas by hot-hot-heat Christmas Card by nighty Christmas Dog by umedama Christmas on the rocks by Beckwolf28 A Christmas Coral by priteeboy Nightmare Before Christmas by Viviane-ch HtGSC - Merry Christmas by bradsgurl The Christmas Ride by Tammara Happy New 2010 Year by onixa Firework by akamaruhei Firework,Budapest,2008 by L4CC Digital Colorful Firework by SubhadipKoley

Remember: to enter the challenge, post your deviation's link and thumb in a comment of this journal. ALSO: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LINK THIS NEWS ARTICLE IN THE DEVIATION. (Sorry for stating it so strongly, but I've had lots of people saying they'd enter the challenge without even stating it in their deviation comments, so I figured I'd better add this specification somewhere!)

Please spread the word by advertising this news article - we definitely want more participants. The more, the merrier!

This challenge's deadline is December 31st, 2011. Ready, set, GO!!! :eager:
Now re-uploaded as a news article through the Sta.sh feature, the eleventh monthly UF challenge features a classic challenge theme - winter holidays! Bring in your Christmas and/or New Year's spirit and start fractalling with us.

In my home village there is a christmas tree where our central place is and this christmas tree is decorated with colorful cardboard cutouts of the childrem from kindergarden and first year elementary school...I think such a fractal marble on cardboard cut out and laminated (so the rain or snow won't kill it) would make a pretty decoration :D

I'm afraid I might not be able to make it until Christmas because of a lot of appointments and another project I participate in...unfortunately the case for my S-ATA drive gave up working without noise so I have to pick times for making art where I can bear the noise of the fan...but I will still try my best :#1:

No problem at all. I hope you can make it, but I won't make a huge deal of it if you don't. :D
