It came
Without warning
All of a sudden
A vision, an omen
Of anguish and pain
A wasteland, grey landscape
All burnt down to ashes
Skyscrapers,
Groundbreaking
Drowned in the dark
Then cities and people
Prey to the flames
Widespreading terror,
Undying fear
Planes over their heads
Casting shadows of death
A celestial gift
Their uranium rain
Two eyes on the future,
Two eyes on the past
Sharing one same curse and fate:
Yesterday in flames
Tomorrow to ashes
Destruction and hate
Are all they can see
Atomic wars
Lead but to one grave.

Contest entry for the Flame and Ash short story and poetry contest.
A short and mandatory note on my composition: it's not like I haven't read the artist's interpretation of the sculpture - I am fully aware of how ~Sleetwealth feels about her work. Nevertheless, I decided to make this my own interpretation of the bust.
Destruction was the very first impression I had from looking at the deviation, and that one impression later developed into a much deeper feeling of anxiety I could see, and almost touch, in the two protagonists. My entry might be a little "off" the original meaning, but that's what literature is all about, in my humble opinion. Feel free to say whatever you think about it, I'd love more opinions on that.
Also, please let me know if my syntax is acceptable for the kind of work I've made. I'd also like to know if the poem is too allusive and unclear, as it's what I feared about the depiction of the situations - it's all left to the reader to understand what's going on, so can you actually do that, as readers? What about the imagery? Do you think it fits or not?

I like it, and I understood it fine. it makes me think of society today... only we dont mean to kill eachother and doom eachother..... it just happens and we dont know how to make it stop.
