A tornado in a desert. That is what i see. well, yes, tornado is not a hollowing thing, but yes tornado can sometimes makes you feel the emptiness around you. a lonely feeling that suddenly appears after the tornado. it's such an empty feeling.

on the technical side, i love your use of negative space (the white area). well, maybe it's not a "real" negative space because it's not very well blended on the left bottom part. the use of negative space is, in my opinion, better if those space is blended nicely with the whole image.

Overall, i love how this image represent your feeling at that time. the color is also fine to me, tough it's kinda monocromatic. but hey, monochromatic is just a perfect way to express a hollowing mind.

Aww, thanks :aww:
It *is* fairly old as far as the concept goes - but I still recall that period :P

This style with, I presume, Perlin is one or my favourites. It's a particularly good example of how you can get relief from several layers. I love the whispy cloud. :)

Incredible work. This looks as if milk was injected into a piece of wood, with a painterly quality too... Looks so mesmerizingly beautiful and dangerous somehow.

I'm guessing this would be an example of custom textures in ultra fractal? It has a far more naturally organic feel than anything I've achieved with raw algorithm. :) tis excellent :)

Oh yes :D I have mostly used the textures in my pack, and mixed them to get this effect!
However, it's still purely fractal - it's 100% made in UF. No other tools used.
Thank you very much!

You produced this. Therefore, your soul is not hollow :P This work is marbleous :P It could also be the raging lightning of a thunderstorm. It's raw passion. No daughter of Thor has an empty soul :D

Aww <3
Nope, I didn't think about my soul, it's something else that's been left empty in me (by another person, not on my own).
Thank you for the wonderful compliment!

oh, this is so sad... dear Alice... I'm sorry to only be seeing it now (I'm sooooooo behind), but it made my insides jump a little (a kind of choking up?) when I saw the passion in your image...
believe me I know how hard emotional loss is to live through... emotional loss is not emotional failure, perhaps emotional confusion... is there empty w/out full? is there yin w/out yang? is there sad w/out glad? et al... hope this soothes some... [link] and/or [link]

I'm kind of surprised you were able to see through this fractal's meaning and understand what it refers to without even reading any other explanation than the half line in my recent journal... anyway, just so you know, it's not about someone dying, it's about someone leaving.
Thank you so much for your comment, support, and links. I personally prefer Tears For Fears' version of Mad World though. :D [link] By the way, which one is the original?

 well... i know that the feeling of loss (ie broken hearts which don't breakeven) makes me feel hollow... also, I had picked up along the way that your dear one had departed (not died) or the relationship was in turmoil... I was actually concerned for you as this seemed to happen soon after you posted your news article... I would just hope you understand that whatever you are certain of now, may or may not be the same certainties in years to come... music has always been special to me in times of change... thanks for the link to Tears for Fears - had not heard their version (tho I like them) before... [link] is the original version in video form... the song/soundtrack [link] was written by Michael Andrews (performed by Gary Jules I believe) for Donnie Darko, a very strange movie, but very good... I like the orig song version most, but was very impressed with Adam Lambert's personal interpretation - he didn't take it out of the eerie realm just to win Idol... now having heard Tears for Fears, I much prefer the 2 slower ones (they feel sadder) which made me think of [link] this one... be well and kind to yourself my friend...:heart::hug::heart::hug::heart::hug::heart:
btw congrats on your successful finish to high school...

Actually, it didn't happen "soon after", trouble had been ongoing for a month before I posted it. He did know I was ace, he seemed fine with it. But... you never know when people are going to change, how much, and how much it will hurt you...
I seem to be the only person who stays true to her feelings in spite of all else. People change so abruptly it's very difficult to keep up.
Thank you for the song; I had heard the original one and correctly thought it was original then. I liked the movie Donnie Darko a lot, and strange psychological movies in general. That song was perfectly fit for that one part I guess.
My saddest times are usually those in which I listen to music less, because happy songs are terrible and sad songs make me even sadder. ): Though at times it's good to relate to songs such as R.E.M.'s and it pleased me to listen to it again, it describes how I feel.
Thank you again so much. :tighthug:

:icondanboheartplz: oh dear... well, I can tell you sometime folks get their facts wrong... I made a comment on youtube on a particular version of Mad World ascribed to REM, saying what I told you... then, I was put in my place by a reply which made me dig a little deeper and found: " 'Mad World' is a song by the British band Tears for Fears. Written by Roland Orzabal and sung by bassist Curt Smith, it was the band's third single release and first chart hit, reaching #3 on the UK Singles Chart in November 1982. Both "Mad World" and its B-side, "Ideas As Opiates", would turn up on the band's debut LP The Hurting the following year. The song would eventually become Tears for Fears' first international hit, reaching the Top 40 in several countries between 1982 and 1983. Nearly two decades later, the song made a popular resurgence when it was covered in a much slower, ballad-like style by composers Michael Andrews and Gary Jules for the soundtrack to the movie Donnie Darko. This version reached #1 in the UK in December 2003, and became an international hit." :blahblah::blahblah::blahblah:
I must say, I much prefer the more recent/slower interpretations which seem to fit better the intent (imho) of the song... :blahblah:

so... sometimes we must change our minds due to the facts, which has not to do with feelings... I wonder, sometimes, if folks just don't know their own feelings or lie about them... I'm certainly no expert, but have lots of experience and observations to help me try to figure things out... for the most part, I think we (people)are not really aware/certain of our own true feelings, so we play along... I now live a fairly solitary lifestyle for this (among other) reasons - I can become angry at lack of self awareness &/or stupidity/hubris (proclaiming things as truth based on feelings or desires, with no connection to facts/reality - with no room to accept error)... (such as my error over the provenance of Mad World?!?!?)... I'll not send you more music, then, since it may not be soothing to you... I hope comfort and strength for you, my dear... staying true to yourself is, imo, high priority... also kindness... please feel free to note me at any time if you wish to vent or... or not... I believe in your inner strength...:hug:

Awww, then Tears for Fears' version was the original one! I see. I do like it better in fact, I think it fits the "mad" mood better speaking of rhythms, but I'm one to favour rock influences in many songs; guess it comes from my initial musical culture, which started with metal (a genre I still love very much).

Facts and feelings... I wish they didn't argue so much. I've always been aware of my feelings and I decided I would let them have their space no matter what reason would have said against it. I've become a much better person since the day I stopped over-rationalizing things and I don't think I want this to change back again.
Being young and dealing with another young person I have hopes maturity will eventually lead to a happier conclusion. Maybe it's just a hope that will never come true, but it's still something.
Thank you for being so nice and caring. I will let you know if I need some help.

In spite of what I know inspired this, I have to say it's brilliant. I see the sillouette of a person looking down and to the left, and a spider crawling across the bottom toward the right. I also see the geyser basins of Yellowstone, a volcanic caldera that I call home. I shall send you photos at some point.

I hope that there have been some improvements in your life since we've spoken. I've wanted to drop in on you, but I strained my wrists and typing has been a hassle.
